High resolution enhancement of a crystalline organic thin-film transistor display achieved!

Jan 30, 2013

In a project sponsored by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), under the leadership of Professor Jun-ichi TAKEYA of Osaka University, a group of researchers recently succeeded in developing an organic thin-film transistor (TFT) Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) with the highest performance of any in the world. The high-speed TFT LCD is capable of a 9-fold increase in resolution (0.5 mm x 0.5 mm pixel).
Furthermore, this group improved on the conventional semiconductor solution crystallization technology and developed a new fine processing technology that does not cause any damage to the semiconductors. By doing so, this group achieved a high-mobility organic TFT with performance going far beyond conventional performance levels. This TFT LCD will enable enhanced large display panels and high-speed processing. This group's achievements will promote the development of low-cost thin flexible displays with high performance, displays capable of being used as roll-up TV screens and electronic paper.
