Real-time evidence for spin-motive force
in essence, a nano-scale spin battery
Under the leadership of Professor T. Ono and Professor K. Kobayashi of Osaka University, a team of researchers from several research institutes and universities recently completed experimental results providing strong support for the heretofore largely theoretical "spin-motive force." A report on the real-time observations and evidence they gathered was published under the title " Spin-motive force due to a gyrating magnetic vortex " at the end of May 2012 at the Nature Communications website. The researchers report finding "good agreement between the experimental results, theory and micromagnetic simulations, which taken as a whole provide strong evidence in favour of [the existence of] a spin-motive force."
Where confirmation of the spin-motive force will lead and what practical applications it may have remain to be seen; nonetheless, this is an important research result.
